TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

How does technology change thinking? How can innovations, including technology, be sustained in schools?

  1. Technology changes thinking by providing new or additional outlets for performing tasks. This can be seen in the development of the classroom over the past several years. Just a few decades ago, no one would have thought we would have the technological resources available that we have today. There are computers in every classroom, and additional technology is being incorporated into many of our classrooms. Technology has changed thinking also by creating additional means of assessment in the classroom, such as Powerpoint presentations, digital stories, podcasts, and evaluation software and programs.

As for innovations being sustained, technology costs money, and it can be difficult to sustain technological innovations in some areas, especially since new technology is constantly being developed. Innovations can be sustained in schools through support - from administrators, teachers, parents, and local communities. There is often some funding available for those who seek it.

  2. Technology changes the way students think because it offers so many more outlets that were not available before technology was integrated into classrooms. Students can take virtual field trips without ever leaving the classroom, participate in simulation activities and communicate with other classrooms around the world. This opens students minds to possibilities that are greater than what they can find in their own neighborhoods. It also expands their knowledge of the world and other cultures. Never has it been so easy to communicate with and research other cultures.

I think to sustain technology it needs to be regularly integrated in the days lessons. This way principals and school leaders see that it used on a daily basis and will be more inclined to spend precious budget money on upgrading and/or purchase more technology if they see it as an effective classroom tool. Partnering with businesses and writing grants are also great ways to buy new technology.

  3. Technology allows students to experience things in different ways. Students have the opportunity to experience things they may not have access to via simulations. Students can show their creativity via technology as well as express themselves in new and exciting ways.
To sustain technology, communities and school systems must support the endeavor. One great idea would be to partner with businesses in the community who are always looking for tax write offs at the end of the year. These businesses could donate money toward technology each year keeping schools on the cutting edge of technology.

  4. Technology changes the way of thinking as it allows students to analyze problems, situations, and tasks and participate in interactive learning. Using technology, students can manipulate objects and it allows them to think critically and gain abstract as well as concrete perspectives through real life models and simulations.
Technology in the classroom is amazing as students can visit places without leaving the classroom, view and create science experiments without the dangers of chemicals or glass, and meet the standards of the state’s curriculum while forming a better understanding of the concepts they must master. The use of technology allows students to think outside of the box and gain more than just the abstract perspectives they would have by only doing seat work, worksheets and taking tests. It is proven that doing is better than telling; students must be involved and fully immersed in the content to reap all of the benefits of the learning process.
For technology to be sustained in schools, first and foremost the schools must be provided with the funds to get the technology and further to keep access to the technology. All teachers including the administration need to be on the same page about the importance of technology in the classroom and that its use should extend further than just simply for delivery purposes. Teachers must implement technology into their instruction daily and provide students with opportunities to interact with the software to gain the knowledge and understanding they need for this day and age.

  5. Technology has changed our way of thinking in many ways. Past generations have not been able to communicate with other countries around the world with just the click of a mouse, nor have they had the ability to be as creative as our present generation. Creativity, innovation, and communication have all expanded with the increase and advances of technology. Students are learning to think on a more global scale today thanks to technology.
In order for technology to be sustained in our schools, we need to have more funding…which is not the case today, given the shape of our economy. I also think schools need to think of creative ways to receive money for new technology. In my field experience today we were using the laptop cart. Almost half of the computers on the cart were either not working correctly or had not be plugged in to be charged. It would be easier if more computers were readily available to the students, but this is simply not the case. I also think that more teachers need to be trained in the use of technology so that they are not scared of new technology in the classroom. The teachers attitude toward technology shapes students attitudes toward technology, therefore teachers need to be appropriately trained.

  6. Technology brings awareness to each person that uses it. It opens peoples eyes to the world and what can be offered to them. It brings everything into a global perspective. Schools need to begin to push for more technology and figure out a way to find the funding necessary. The opportunities that schools without technology are missing out on are unbelievable. My mom's school does not have the proper technology needed to give the students every opportunity and chance to experience technology. Some students still do not know how to use a computer correctly. They have some skills, but are still new to it all. Even some of the teachers are unable to use the computers correctly. They need the training as well as the newest technology out there. This needs to be a priority for schools, but we all know how that goes...

  7. Technology has changed the way we think in everything that we do from talking to a friend, buying products, and doing homework. In the past we used our voice to communicate with each other and today its email and text. Technology has made us think about getting things done quick. We google for advice on how to get our homework done and some even buy their papers. Technology is a quick fix. You no longer have to leave your home to do your shopping. The convenience of a credit card and the internet has made that easier - and with the gas prices you can save money by shopping at home.

Teachers need to include technology in the classroom to keep students up to date with the world. When schools invest in technology they are saving money in the long run. Information that is in books can be put into computers. Calculator use is also in computers. Simulations help out in the classrooms to give students that extra knowledge.

  8. Technology has had such a huge impact not only on the way we think but also the way we learn and teach. Simulations, interactive games and educational websites, smartboards and so much more contribute to what we can offer students to expand their minds and their schemma on on facts about the world that they might not otherwise have. The massive amounts of technology we have right at our fingertips aid us in creating a world where students no longer hear about the world rather they see it first hand.

To be a great teacher and to educate students thoroughly we must ourselves be fluent technology users. It is so important that we build up our students abilities and fluency so that they become an asset to our society when it is their time to enter college or the work force. By doing this we can also set the footing for new technology to emerge because were are giving the children of our future the tools needed to expand and grow.
